Keith Andrews has made no secret of his desire to take a few steps up the footballing ladder by leaving Milton Keynes.

His infamous interview with SkySports News, in which he all but demanded a move from the club and admitted he believed he was ‘too good for League One’, seemed to ratify his desire to move on this summer.

It now appears that there are three clubs locked in a bitter battle for the midfielder’s signature, with a bidding war set to commence.

In recent days we have become aware of interest for the Dons’ club captain from Bramall Lane, where Sheffield United manager Kevin Blackwell had developed an interest.

That interest was believed to be so concrete that a bid of £1.5m plus the exchange of Nicky Law was rumoured to be about to be put to the Dons’ board.

Blackburn Rovers, under the instruction of former Dons’ manager Paul Ince, were the first to take an interest in Andrews, although it is understood that Ince is reluctant to make his former team-mate at Wolverhampton Wanderers his first signing at Ewood Park.

Ince feels such a move would not go down too well with the Rovers supporters, who are demanding that their new manager not only holds on to David Bentley and Roque Santa Cruz, but also strengthens the team still further.

Therefore, Ince is reluctantly left to take a back-seat in the Andrews saga, and watch as other clubs take the front foot in the race to sign him.

The third club understood to be locked in the battle is Watford, with manager Adrian Boothroyd interested in bringing the midfield star to Vicarage Road.

The presence of three high-profile clubs in the race to sign Andrews is seen as a major advantage for the Dons’, who are understood to be willing to part company with their captain if the price is right.

With the bidding currently standing at almost £2m, Dons’ could be set to pocket a fortune on a player who would have gone for less than a quarter of that twelve months ago.
