Blades Join Andrews Chase

Ever since Paul Ince’s departure as manager of the Dons to Blackburn Rovers, the future of club captain Keith Andrews has been in doubt.

That was further compounded by his own revelations, in an interview with SkySports News, that he felt he was ‘too good for League One.’

With speculation suggesting it was simply a matter of time before Ince made a swoop for the man who used to be a team-mate at Wolverhampton Wanderers, many Dons supporters had come to almost accept that appointing a new captain was to be added to a long list for the summer, that has included manager and wing wizard.

Interestingly, Sheffield United have been linked with a move for the midfielder in the last 24 hours, with Kevin Blackwell so intent on bringing Andrews to Bramall Lane that he is happy to depart with £1.5m plus Nicky Law going the other way.

Law, 20, is also a midfielder, but has failed to impress thus far with the Blades. He was sent out on loan last season, to Bradford City, where he made 10 appearances scoring twice. He will be no viable replacement for Andrews, although the huge sum of money being speculated for the midfield man will surely prove an attraction to Pete Winkelman, the club chairman.

With the club suffering yet more financial instability, such a huge influx of cash will be almost welcomed, with a sigh of relief, by the board.

Winkelman has also suggested that should a big enough club come in for Andrews, the club would not stand in the way of a deal being made.

All the signs seem to suggest that it will be only a matter of time before our club captain follows our former manager out of the exit door at stadium:mk.

Will you be happier with the cash to strenghten the squad?

Don’t think he is irreplaceable, I am quite happy to see him go if it is for the money being quoted, Matteo can do a lot with that.

Exactly. RDM can bring in three or four very good League One players with that kind of money. Although he will have to get a move on if we want to be ready for the season kick-off.
