No great surprise really given the strides he’s made and the season he’s had but at last night’s Football League Awards ceremony Dele Alli picked up the Young Player of the Year gong.

The 19 year old Academy graduate will soon depart the Dons and take up resident at Tottenham Hotspur and White Hart Lane following their January signing of him and in his second season as a professional he has notched up 41 appearances for the club, scoring 16 goals and a hattrick against Crewe Alexandra in our six one hammering of them earlier in the season.

Alli picked up the award last night in London after beating off competitions from former colleague Patrick Bamford (Chelsea on loan at Middlesbrough) and Nathan Redmond (Norwich).

Our former player Bamford went on to bag the Championship Player of the Year and fans will remember with us he scored 22 times in 44 appearances across two loans spells.

Speaking at the ceremony, Alli said of the award.

‘It’s been a really good season so far and I wouldn’t have been able to do any of it without my team-mates. I also can’t thank the gaffer enough for everything he has done – he’s always had faith in me.’

Alli also finished as runner up on the night in the League 1 Player of the Year category.

MK Dons featured in five categories on the night.

Goalkeeper Coach Paul Heald was nominated as the Club Hero – the Tokio Marine Kiln Club Hero Award – but missed out to Birmingham City`s Brian Murphy.

Giorgio Rasulo was also one of three nominated for the LFE League 1 Apprentice of the Year – won by Sheffield United`s George Cooper.

Lastly, the club were shortlisted for the Family Club of the Year Award – won by Colchester United.

Really hope that you make it up this year, appears that the manager is doing a really good job for you. Players like Alli coming through are testament to that. Obviously, as a Spurs fan, I’m getting quite excited by what Alli can bring. Won’t be expecting fireworks right away, but going on what I’ve seen, I think he has it all in place to make the step up? would be interesting to hear some of your views on how ready for Premier league he is?
