Roberto Di Matteo has sealed his first transfer for the Dons with the capture of Austrian winger Florian Sturm.

Sturm impressed the coaching staff whilst on a week-long trial with the club, and featured heavily in the team’s opening two pre-season fixtures.

He provided an assist for Sam Baldock to score against Reading on Saturday, before getting on the scoresheet himself last night against Sheffield Wednesday.

The 26-year-old joins on a free transfer from Swiss side FC Vaduz, where he made 51 appearances, scoring 14 times.

He also spent two years with Austrian heavy-weights Rapid Vienna, and is a former Austrian Under-21 international.

He signs a two-year contract with the Dons and will slot into the left side of midfield, replacing Leicester City-bound Lloyd Dyer.

Sturm is the Dons’ second summer signing, after Paul Ince captured Chesterfield midfielder Peter Leven before leaving for Blackburn Rovers.

Dons are also believed to be chasing Hearts striker Calum Elliot, who held talks with the club yesterday.

I wonder how Leven feels, signing for MK Dons and then watching Ince leave!|

I’ve got a good feeling about Sturm. Think he’ll do rather well for us. Leven looks like he’ll slot nicely into Andrews place in midfield, although does seem to lack that yard of pace.
