Since Martin Allen left to join Leicster City a couple of weeks ago, There has been little word from Peter Winkelman of any names that may be taking the hotseat for next season.
Martin Allen left the club as a suprise in May after failing to take the Dons up through the playoffs. He seemed to be extremely exited about the new stadium and the future of MK Dons.
He has left most Dons fans dissapointed, including the chairman. Peter Winkelman has said ‘He[Martin Allen] wanted to manage in the championship and he wanted to do that with the Dons’. But there is no use in mourning about it now. Its time to say goodbye to ‘hoofball’ and say hello to a new manager, and new success.
There have been a few names mentioned around Milton Keynes about who will take the hotseat, but no official hint from the club.
He said:’Slowly but surely a short list is emerging, sometimes that worries me, I do it in this unscientific way of just getting lots of opinions from lots of different people and you find names continuously come up’
He also said: ‘Somebody has got to ultimately look me in the eye and convince me that I can believe in their ability to deliver us a winning, and I mean promotion, team because that’s what it’s about.’
The front runner at this early stage of the appointment is reportedly Micky Adams. Adams has experienced success before with three of his former clubs. The Sheffield born man first tasted success with fulham in 1997, finishing runners up, therefore getting them promoted from the old division 3.
He then flew the seagulls to promotion from division 3 in the 2000-2001 season after Brighton had experienced 5 years in the basement division.
He then guided Leicster City to promotion in the 2002-2003 season, – sending the Foxes into the Premiership.
He has stated while talking to MK News :
‘The MK Dons job certainly does appeal to me – I am more than interested in it,’
‘It’s an exciting job for whoever gets it with the move into a new stadium next season and the squad they have.’
Other candidates for the job are Mike Newell and Mike Dove.
