Roberto Di Matteo yesterday confirmed Vital Dons‘ reports that Blackburn Rovers had approached the club for captain Keith Andrews.

The Italian manager also revealed that a host of other clubs had declared their interest in the midfield star, and admitted the club would leave it up to Andrews to decide whether to stay or move on.

The chances of the club captain rejecting a move to work alongside former manager and team-mate Paul Ince at Premier League side Blackburn are very slim indeed.

However, Vital Dons understands that terms have been agreed between all parties, in a deal that will see Andrews moving to Ewood Park for £1.5m. Rovers are understood to be biding their time before making the deal public, for fear of upsetting some of their own supporters.

Ince has been in pursuit of Andrews, who he played alongside at Wolverhampton Wanderers, ever since he headed for the exit door at stadium:mk last month. However, he isn’t the only manager interested in the central midfielder, with Watford boss Adrian Boothroyd also known to be in the chase.

Di Matteo revealed to SkySports, ‘He has had offers not only from Blackburn but from other clubs as well.’

‘I guess it is up to him to make his mind up.’

However, the manager stressed that he would like nothing more than to hold on to his skipper.

He added, ‘Of course I’d love to keep my captain. He is an important player who had a fantastic season last year but we will see.’

Vital Dons reported yesterday that a deal between the two clubs, MK Dons & Blackburn Rovers, had been agreed, and that the finishing touches were being put to the transfer.

This has got to be wrong!

The Rovers are completing the signings of two world class midfield players (in Villaneueva and Castillo). Next in after those is a right full back of similar world standard and the England international gpoalkeeper.

We do not need the MK Don-key, especially as £1.5m would make him the most expensive collector ever of training ground cones (which would be the nearest he would/should be allowed to get to the First Team).

His abilities are not even close to those of the new signings and also a long way below those of David Dunn, The Axe, Steven Reid, Johann Vogel and, at 37, the legend that is Tugay.

7th choice at best and as there are probably a similar number of lads in our Academy that would deserve a starting place over Andrews based on ability, he wouldn’t even feature in our Reserves.

Hopefully, this story is old news/speculative hawking by the Dons and instead the tale is true that Andrews believes he is joining The Rovers because Ince promised to take him to his new club.

However, this was when it looked like Ince was going to Leicester (nearer to Andrews standard, but still well above his capabilities). Now Ince is at Ewood he has had a rethink over quality (maybe after being ‘advised’ by the Board…..) and the clogger is now off the radar.

Unfortunately for Andrews, the deluded fool is still sitting by the ‘phone waiting for the call……

I agree that it is a bad signing for you, and that Andrews is neither a Premiership player nor worth £1.5m. But we’ll let you find that out for yourselves once the cheque has cleared, if you don’t mind. I think Ince is allowing personal issues to cloud his judgement. Not a good start.
