Paul Mitchell, the 27-year-old MK Dons midfielder, has completed a one-month loan deal with League Two side Barnet.

The former Wigan player has spent the past 18 months recovering from a leg-and-ankle fracture, and hopes to gain further match fitness at Underhill.

He had made a brief competitive return for Roberto Di Matteo’s MK Dons in the Carling Cup defeat at Cardiff City, but the manager felt he needed more match-time in order to fully complete his recovery.

Speaking to the club’s official site, Mitchell explained, ‘I had a chat with the gaffer and the chairman and, with there being no reserve team this season, we all felt it was best for me to go out and get some competitive first team football.’

In a message to the Barnet supporters and manager Paul Fairclough, Mitchell claimed, ‘I’m very grateful to Paul Fairclough and Barnet for giving me a chance. They’ve obviously taken a bit of a risk given how long I’ve been out but I think I proved on Tuesday night that I’m fit and raring to go.’

‘Barnet are a good, strong team with young, hungry players as I’ve learned from training with them today. I’m looking forward to the challenge ahead.’

Vital Dons would like to wish Paul all the best with The Bees, we’ll be watching your progress intently, and look forward to seeing you back at stadium:mk next month!
