Blackburn Rovers have confirmed the signing of MK Dons club captain Keith Andrews on a three-year contract. The transfer fee is undisclosed.

Rovers manager, and former Dons boss, Paul Ince, has been chasing his former team-mate and captain since moving to Lancashire himself from Milton Keynes earlier this summer.

The League Two Player Of The Year last campaign has made his feelings about moving on perfectly clear in recent months, after a revealing interview with SkySportsNews, whereby he claimed he ‘was too good for League One.’

Shortly after those comments were made, the player was placed onto the transfer list at the club, only for a strikingly few amount of bids to be received by the club.

In recent weeks he has been removed from the transfer list, and appeared to be willing to play a part in Roberto Di Matteo’s new era at the club, but has since failed to feature in the squad for the past several weeks.

Vital Dons understands that the skipper, 27, was even at Ewood Park last weekend, as a guest of Ince, watching his prospective new team-mates in action.

A rumoured bid is understood to have been accepted by the club, in the region of £500,000 up front plus a possible additional £800,000 in add-ons. However, some sources have reported the fee could have been as high as £1m.

Andrews spent much of today (Thursday) in Blackburn having a medical, after both clubs agreed terms on a move, with Di Matteo also sanctioning the sale. After passing the examinations, Andrews then proceeded to put pen to paper on a three-year deal.

However, it is expected only a small percentage of the money generated from the transfer will be given to Italian Di Matteo for more signings, with just four days remaining until the transfer window slams shut.

Big loss for you guys I think. He was a key player. Time will tell on his Rovers move but Ince seems to love him.

We seemed to have started the season well without him, although I’m sure we will miss his presence once the season gets well and truly underway. At the end of the day though, he wasn’t happy here anymore and just had to go. I think we would have made a decent amount of money from his sale, and that’s the main thing for us. I would warn you guys though, he isn’t Premier League standard, and is only going to be making the occassional appearance in the Carling Cup. It’s a novelty buy from Ince, made with his heart as opposed to his head.

I don’t think he’ll make much of an impact in the Premier League!
