You wait all summer long for a game, and then two come along in the space of four days!

After an inspired start to his managerial career on Saturday against a full-strength Reading side, Roberto Di Matteo takes his players into battle with Championship boys Sheffield Wednesday this evening.

Indications are that Willy Gueret, still linked with a move away from the club, remains sidelined with a hip injury, therefore Nathan Abbey should continue between the sticks.

It should also be interesting to see if any of the trialists feature during the game at stadium:mk this evening. Winger Florian Sturm impressed against Steve Coppell’s men at the weekend, and a repeat performance from the Frenchman could see him earn himself a contract with the club.

Calum Elliot, who has travelled down to Milton Keynes for talks with Di Matteo today according to reports, is not expected to be involved, although could be watching from the stands. Keep your eyes peeled for a young male, accompanied by a male friend, gyrating to Cascada in the ClubRed area then!

Steve Wright, who missed the Reading game with a dead leg, is in contention to figure, although Danny Swailes, Drissa Diallo and Kevin Gallen will all sit out. Sam Baldock is also a doubt after picking up an ankle knock on Saturday.

Wednesday are understood to be several games ahead of the Dons in terms of match fitness, after their recent tour of Holland, and the match is sure to follow on from the Dons’ 2-1 defeat on Saturday as a very tough encounter.
