Di Matteo – Andrews In Demand

Roberto Di Matteo yesterday confirmed Vital Dons‘ reports that Blackburn Rovers had approached the club for captain Keith Andrews.

The Italian manager also revealed that a host of other clubs had declared their interest in the midfield star, and admitted the club would leave it up to Andrews to decide whether to stay or move on.

The chances of the club captain rejecting a move to work alongside former manager and team-mate Paul Ince at Premier League side Blackburn are very slim indeed.

However, Vital Dons understands that terms have been agreed between all parties, in a deal that will see Andrews moving to Ewood Park for £1.5m. Rovers are understood to be biding their time before making the deal public, for fear of upsetting some of their own supporters.

Ince has been in pursuit of Andrews, who he played alongside at Wolverhampton Wanderers, ever since he headed for the exit door at stadium:mk last month. However, he isn’t the only manager interested in the central midfielder, with Watford boss Adrian Boothroyd also known to be in the chase.

Di Matteo revealed to SkySports, ‘He has had offers not only from Blackburn but from other clubs as well.’

‘I guess it is up to him to make his mind up.’

However, the manager stressed that he would like nothing more than to hold on to his skipper.

He added, ‘Of course I’d love to keep my captain. He is an important player who had a fantastic season last year but we will see.’

Vital Dons reported yesterday that a deal between the two clubs, MK Dons & Blackburn Rovers, had been agreed, and that the finishing touches were being put to the transfer.
