It’s been confirmed that MK Dons have opted against giving three second year scholars professional deals.

Mason Spence, Charlie Burns and Mo Ahmed have all been informed that professional contracts aren’t going to be offered to them, with director of youth Mike Dove telling the official website: ‘I’d like to personally thank Mason, Mo and Charlie for all their hard work and dedication during their respective time with the academy.

‘All of them have been terrific ambassadors for the football club both on the pitch and in the community and I’m sure all three will achieve great success in whatever they choose to do in the future.’

Spence, who has captained the U18 side, made his first team debut in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy this season with Burns often warning up with the senior squad.

Such decisions are never easy, but MK have to do what is best for their long-term future even if that isn’t always what is best for the likes of these youngsters that will now be moving on.
