Blackburn Rovers manager Paul Ince has appointed former Arsenal defender Nigel Winterburn as defensive coach at Ewood Park.

The former MK Dons boss has acted to strengthen his backroom team once again, after sensibly recognising he needs experience to work alongside his own raw managerial talent.

After taking Dons’ assistant manager Ray Mathias with him to Lancashire, Ince then moved to bring in Archie Knox as first-team coach.

The appointment of a high-profile name such as Winterburn underlines Ince’s strong connections within the game.

However, the former Liverpool & Manchester United midfield star has yet to move in the transfer window as yet, despite rumours of a £1.5m bid for Dons’ skipper Keith Andrews.

Ince begins his Rovers’ career this evening in his first pre-season friendly against Macclesfield.
