It wasn’t quite as depleted as the weekend but Milton Keynes Dons were still limited with the options available in midweek.

MK Dons once again showed that they haven’t given up on the play-offs as the recorded a 2-1 victory over Oldham Athletic at Boundary Park on Tuesday night.

Karl Robinson couldn’t, and wouldn’t hide his delight at the win that was hard fought but much deserved.

The MK Dons boss said: ‘The way we won the game was testament not only to individuals but to the team.

‘I couldn’t be happier. Coming to Oldham on a Tuesday night, all the stats told you we would lose.

‘To concede from a set piece was disappointing, but the way we rose to the challenge after that was tremendous.

‘I’m ecstatic. I don’t usually get this excited after a game, but we knew this would be difficult and to a man the players were sensational.’

Goals from George Baldock, who had been a doubt going into the game but made it much to the delight of Robinson who praised him for this, and Izale McLeod had MK Dons two-nil up at half time before former MK Dons striker Charlie MacDonald pulled one back but it wasn’t enough to peg the visitors back.

Robinson saved some special praise for Dele Alli, with the midfielder continuing to see his stock rise after the 17-year-old put in another ‘special’ performance.

He added: ‘He showed again that he’s special.

‘He had a row with their manager in the second half and I told him he’ll be apologising for that, but his last two performances have been tremendous.’
