MK Dons thrashed rivals Peterborough United 3-0 in a resounding victory at stadium:mk.

Samir Carruthers and Ben Reeves came in for Dele Alli (knee) and George Williams, for a game which the Dons were confident following the midweek win over Colchester, despite having not beaten the Posh since 2011.

In typical style the Dons went ahead after just four minutes. Daniel Powell brilliantly beat the defender to set up Grigg who finished emphatically past Alnwick from 15 yards.

The visitors still looked lively on the attack however and Oztumer hit the crossbar from 25 yards out soon after.

But the Dons remained dangerous in attack and doubled their lead on 30 minutes when Ben Reeves, not long back from injury, hit the back of the net with a fantastic drive from outside the box following a well-worked short corner.

Both Powell and Baker then had good chances as the Dons relentlessly looked to extend their lead.

But Darren Ferguson`s 35th minute double substitution did nothing as the Dons went three up ten minutes later. Reeves completed his brace in spectacular fashion with a looping long range shot that Alnwick had no chance of saving.

The visitors looked slightly better in attack in the second half, but it was still the Dons who were creating the best chances, and Grigg headed narrowly over from a Reeves cross not long after the restart.

Substitute George Williams then had two great chances, one a well saved effort and the other a shot from inside the box cleared off the line.

But in reality that game was over at half-time and the Dons claimed a well-deserved three points at the final whistle.

With results elsewhere going their way the Dons remain in second place, and are now set up perfectly for Saturday`s trip to Coventry.
