MK Dons put together a fantastic performance to beat Sheffield Wednesday 2-1 at stadium:mk yesterday evening.

In an interesting move, Rob Hall replaced Dean Bowditch at No.10, a decision that proved a good one with Hall at the heart of a lively Dons attack.

Eager to bounce back from Saturday`s 1-0 loss at home to Ipswich, the Dons started well with Murphy twice coming close to playing in Maynard before his own shot was deflected wide.

Soon after Carruthers, who has impressed after replacing Poyet alongside Potter in central midfield, fired an effort over the bar.

Murphy then had another effort on 17 minutes, a blast from the centre of the box that was only denied a goal by a desperate Wednesday block.

It has been a trend in recent games that the Dons have the possession and the play but don`t make use of it to score first. Carl Baker wasn`t having that however and fired the Dons ahead on 25 minutes with a characteristic goal, beating two defenders before firing home from the right-hand side of the box.

The Owls got more into the game towards the end of the half but the Dons held firm to go into the break ahead.

No sooner had the second half begun but the Dons had doubled their lead, their first 2nd goal in a match in 10 games. This time it was Maynard with his 2nd goal of the season, finishing neatly past Westwood after he had put through one-on-on by Carruthers.

Maynard did have another shot from distance which was well saved by the keeper. The Dons still looked dangerous up till the final whistle but the visitors were getting increasingly into the game.

Martin produced an amazing on-handed save Dons deny Forestieri`s powerful, short-range effort on 75 minutes, but could do nothing about Hooper`s goal on 77 minutes, the striker finishing well from Wallace`s cross.

After Sheffield had come back to draw 2-2 twice in their last three games, the Dons had reason to worry about the visitors but potential to equalise. But pushed on by a home crowd in good voice, the Dons defended well to claim three points.

Now to play like this every week.
