MK Dons’ faint hopes of automatic promotion, given the form that Preston are in and the fact that Bristol City are away and clear, remain on with a convincing win against Scunthorpe on Tuesday.

Within minutes of the game at the stadium:mk getting underway we had effectively wrapped up the points with both goals from our two-nil win against the relegation threatened side coming in the opening stages.

It took Grigg (2) just 81-seconds to open the scoring as he followed up an effort to make it one-nil.

The chance to double the lead came soon after when Scunthorpe ‘keeper Daniels brought down Alli, who had already won the ball well in midfield to get forward, in the area. From the resulting penalty, which was taken by Grigg (5) with the Brentford loanee continuing his awesome season as he converted from the spot, it was two.

We could have added further goals, both Alli and Chelsea loanee Lewis Baker – we’ve not done bad with Chelsea loanees over the years have we and Baker looks to be another of them! – could have added to the scoreline but two were more than enough.

This win moves us back to within five-points of second placed Preston, who we still believe we can catch but, without tempting fate, are very much heading into a likely play-off place as the in-form side in League 1 as far as the four team likely to be contesting this goes.
