MK Dons moved to the top of League 1 with another thrashing of Crewe Alexandra.

Daniel Powell, Devante Cole and Dean Bowditch started in place of Jonson Clarke-Harris, Danny Green and Will Grigg for the trip to Gresty Road.

The Dons started the better out of the two teams and were in-front after just 12 minutes courtesy of Devante Cole. The on-loan Manchester City man finished easily from 12 yards as the ball bounced kindly following Bowditch`s saved shot.

While Crewe did have a long-range free-kick fly narrowly over the bar, the Dons were having all the chances and went two up after 28 minutes. Dean Bowditch, playing in an unusual strikers position, collected Potter`s through-ball and finished with a neat chip over keeper Garret who`s day was only going to get worse.

10 minutes later Cole got his second and the Dons third, connecting with Powell`s low cross and sweeping home after the winger had made a good run.

Crewe did look a little more promising on the attack come the second half, but their defence continued to struggle when faced with a potent Dons attack.

Cole had a header fly just over the bar from Lewington`s cross while Baker shot just wide of the post as the Dons searched for a fourth.

And they got it on 72 minutes when Baker collected Lewington`s pass and, after a trademark slaloming run, fired past Garret with a powerful finish.

Baker then almost doubled his tally for the match when an audacious chip from outside the box hit the crossbar.

Crewe must have been desperate to not lose by the same margin as in their 6-1 loss at stadium:mk in September, but Daniel Powell was there to make it 5-0 on 90 minutes, capitalising on a mix-up in the box to fire home past Garret.

There`s no better way to set ourselves up for next Saturday`s huge clash with Bristol City.
