Technically Dele Alli will soon fall into the ‘past player’ category with MK Dons when he returns to Spurs at the end of the season but he and Middlesbrough’s loanee from Chelsea Patrick Bamford are both up for the Football League Young Player of the Year award.

Alli, who completed his £5m move to Spurs on transfer deadline day to be instantly loaned back to us until the end of the season to try and help us into the Championship, is in the running to be awarded with this honour.

The 19-year-old is the only nominee from League 1 level and will compete against former loanee Bamford, who really made his name at the stadium:mk during impressive loan spells from Chelsea but with his ability outgrowing League 1 he eventually went onto Derby on loan last season and this season Middlesbrough.

Making up the list is Norwich’s England U21 winger Nathan Redmond.

As well as being the only League 1 player on the list Alli is also the youngest player with the other two Championship player both 21. But can Alli add another accolade to his growing list by winning this? We’ll now soon enough as an announcement is made on Sunday!
