This season especially, MK Dons has become the ideal club for young players to develop.

Not only have a number of players come through the academy to move on to bigger clubs, but the likes of Patrick Bamford and Benik Afobe have had their careers boosted following successful loans spells in Milton Keynes, while Devante Cole has made a good start in his current loan spell from Manchester City.

And now, top clubs are actually asking to send their best young players to the League 1 club, as Karl Robinson revealed to MKWeb following the Don`s signing of Chelsea`s 19-year-old midfielder Lew Baker:

“I didn`t make the phone call – they called us,’ said Robinson

“He`s one of the best young midfielders in the country and the shock when the name got mentioned to me, it took me a few seconds to say yes.’

“He`s probably one of our best ones in a long time and the hype surround him is phenomenal.’

Naturally this is helped by the Dons high position in the table this season, but if we can keep up these links with the top clubs, hopefully we can bring in more top youngsters in the future.
