Patrick Bamford has enjoyed a successful loan spell with MK Dons and they’re already planning to retain him next season.

Karl Robinson, as he told West London Sport, is working to secure the Chelsea youngster on loan again next season: ‘I’ve got my fingers crossed we can do a deal sooner rather than later, because he’s top drawer.

‘He knows I love him and that I’ll coach him and make him a better player, but it’s in the hands of (Chelsea academy manager) Neil Bath and Chelsea now.’

The MK Dons boss hasn’t hid his thoughts on the 19-year-old forward, who he has tipped to go all the way to the top but feels staying at stadium:mk can only help that development, adding: ‘Patrick is someone I foresee in years to come playing at the highest level – the power and the pace of him is scary.

‘I think it’s important we keep developing these players as a country. It’s important for the future of the English game for these players to get real game time at places like MK Dons.’

Robinson is right, the likes of Bamford need to be playing regular first-team football and doing this at a lower level helps without a doubt and is better than playing reserve team or development football.

Bamford, signed by Chelsea from Nottingham Forest last year, has certainly been impressive with MK and if they can retain him for another season you’d expect all to benefit again!
