Hearts Reject Elliot Bid

The future of Hearts striker Calum Elliot took another turn yesterday when Hearts rejected a loan approach for the striker from Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

It is believed the SPL side are holding out for Caley to pay a bigger percentage of the player’s wages while he is away. However, Elliot is keen to move away from Scotland after suffering abuse at the hands of some of his own supporters.

Inverness boss Craig Brewster admitted, ‘The offer we put to Hearts has been rejected. They want us to pay a higher proportion of his wages than we offered for the season-long loan.’

‘I don’t know what Hearts’ thinking is but they have to decide where is best for Calum to go.’

Brewster then attempted to explain how Elliot would get more first-team opportunities with a move to his side, as opposed to a move to Milton Keynes.

He went on, ‘If they send him down south to England then they might get more money but it’s not just about money, it’s about the player’s development.’

‘Yes, they might get an extra couple of hundred quid a week but will it enhance the player?’

‘Will he get games at a bigger club or will he be on the sidelines?’

‘It’s no secret I will need one or two extra strikers and he would have a fair chance of playing regularly with us.’

‘Depending on how well he did, Hearts might then get a bigger fee for him.’

Hearts confirmed yesterday that MK Dons had expressed an interest in the 21-year-old striker.

A statement on their official website read, ‘We are aware of interest from a number of clubs and MK Dons is one of them.’

It is believed that Elliot has travelled down to hold talks with Dons manager Roberto Di Matteo.
