Aston Villa have agreed a fee with Blackburn Rovers for goalkeeper Brad Friedel, paving the way for Dons keeper Willy Gueret to move to Ewood Park.

Rovers have accepted a £2m bid from Villa for their veteran American stopper, after he told the club he wanted to move on.

However, the deal has only been agreed on the condition that Rovers are successful in finding a replacement for Friedel.

Gueret, consipicious by his absence from the Dons’ first two pre-season friendlies, has been linked with a move away from stadium:mk in recent weeks.

And former Dons’ boss Paul Ince was understood to be keen on bringing in his former No.1 as an understudy at Blackburn. The agreement of terms over Friedel could well see Ince now finally make a swoop for Frenchman Gueret.

With the season now drawing ever nearer by the day, finding a new goalkeeper will become top of Ince’s priority list if Friedel does make the move to Villa Park.

With Gueret, he knows a reasonable and fair price will see the keeper move to Lancashire without any hitches, as the player is sure to agree terms if offered the chance.

Sources have suggested that Gueret has grown disillusioned with life at MK Dons, with the constant changing of managers on an almost yearly basis, and he is believed to have confided that he is seeking a move away.

I really hope this doesn’t come off. It’s extremely late in the day for us to start hunting down a replacement goalkeeper, and I just don’t think that Abbey is up to it over the course over an entire season. Willy has a couple of great years left in him at the club, and was a vital part in our success last season.
