MK Dons released one Upson this summer, former England international Matt Upson following an injury plagued season with the Dons that saw the veteran defender struggle with injures, but another has been signed.

Ed Upson has been secured on a two-year deal.

Upson was part of the Millwall side that missed promotion to the Championship after losing in the play-off final to Barnsley, following that the former Yeovil defender was released.

He’s now come to MK Dons on a two-year deal though.

Despite being a regular under Neil Harris last season this didn’t prevent him from being one of the Millwall players he released with Karl Robinson moving quickly to secure the 26-year-old as his first signing of the summer.

The defender said he couldn’t wait to ‘get going’ with him looking forward to showing ‘the fans what he can do’ commenting on the Official Website.

‘It`s brilliant to be here. I`ve admired the club for a long time now, I know a few of the boys and the manager made me feel wanted. I`m really looking forward to meeting everyone and I can`t wait to get going. It`s an ambitious club and the style of play is fantastic. I`m looking to get into the team, make my mark and show the fans what I can do.’

Robinson has revealed he tried to sign the defender previously but it wasn’t to be, he’s got his man now with Upson turning down Championship offers to come to the club.

‘I tried to sign Ed before but unfortunately it wasn`t possible to get a deal done at the time. He had offers to go back to the Championship so I`m delighted he`s decided to join us and I look forward to working with him. He`s the type of player that will suit our style very well, is the perfect age and has very good experience.’

Having secured his first signing of the summer the boss went onto add this was ‘the first step in our rebuilding process’ with the aim now to ‘assemble the best possible squad’ for our League 1 campaign.
