MK Dons have signed Chelsea`s Lewis Baker until the end of the season on a youth loan.

The 19-year-old creative midfielder and England Under-21 international is very highly rated, and scored 26 goals for his country and Chelsea`s youth side last season.

His youth loan includes the play-offs and he could make his debut when the Dons travel to Coventry on Saturday.

He also made four loan appearances for Sheffield Wednesday last month but was recalled by Chelsea, so this is a fantastic signing by Robinson.

Speaking to, Robinson said: “Lewis is one of the most gifted young midfielders in England and I`m looking forward to working with him for the rest of the season.

“Obviously with Dele (Alli) out for up to six weeks, Lewis gives us another option in midfield. He also knows where the goal is too, which is clear by the amount he scored last season – a great achievement at any age level.

“I am confident that this addition will give us a real push at an important time in the season.”

Indeed, it will be good to have some more cover in midfield and Baker seems to offer a similar style of play to Alli, which would work well paired with Darren Potter.

There will also be greater competition for places with Carruthers and Andrews other candidates for that midfield spot.
