Samir Carruthers last season showed what he can do during his loan spell with Milton Keynes Dons so most know what the midfielder is capable of.

Injury forced him back to Aston Villa before the season ended and up until Wednesday there wasn’t really any indication that he would return to the stadium:mk this season on loan or otherwise!

Then, Wednesday afternoon, the club confirmed that his signing on a three-year contract had been made with an undisclosed fee securing his signature from the premier league side.

I understand some fans might be thinking why have we signed a player who is injured but we`re building for the future. He is part of the long-term strategy here and that`s shown with his three-year deal.

A posterior cruciate ligament injury ended his loan spell last season but he returned to fitness this summer, although he is currently sidelined with a minor thigh injury suffered in pre-season with his former side.

Karl Robinson knows that some might question his signing an ‘injured player’ but with his such a talented player, that he has tipped to return to the topflight one day, he had to take up this option.

The boss told the official website: ‘He`s an exceptional talent and one day I believe he will be back showcasing his ability at the top.

‘Having seen him play here last season, I`m sure the fans will be excited to see Samir play in a Dons shirt soon, especially now he is a permanent member of the squad.’
