In the wake of a defeat that had virtually ended Milton Keynes Dons’ play-off hopes Karl Robinson lashed out at the players, a Good Friday defeat that definitely did end those hopes saw him attack again.

The 1-0 defeat at Port Vale was one that he felt could have been avoided had more effort been shown by his players, with a good number accused of putting too little of this in and the boss has made his feelings more than clear.

Robinson told the media: ‘I was disappointed with the effort of some of the players. If they are upset with what I say, then that’s tough because it’s the truth.

‘The ones who did work hard will know who they are, but the ones who didn’t should also realise they didn’t do enough.’

He said that he’s got much ‘higher standards’ than what he saw and many of those that are basically ‘on trial’ didn’t do anything to impress him and he’ll be doing a lot of ‘rebuilding’ this summer.

Greater numbers, with more experience, will be added to the squad with him admitting recruitment errors this season on his own part.

He added: ‘Some of those players are on trial and there will be an awful lot of rebuilding in the summer.

‘We’ve recruited poorly and in small numbers this season and that has to be put right.

‘We’ve got a lot of young players and we need some experienced professionals who have been there and done it.

‘It’s going to be a busy time and I’m looking forward to it. There is a lot of work to do.’
